Caleb McAlpine's battle with cancer didn't stop him from pursuing a lifelong wish: playing Borderlands 4. On November 26th, he shared his incredible experience on Reddit, detailing a trip to Gearbox's studio where he met developers, including CEO Randy Pitchford, and got an exclusive preview of the game.

"We got to play what they have for Borderlands 4 so far, and it was amazing," Caleb wrote. His journey included a first-class flight, a studio tour, and warm hospitality. Following his visit to Gearbox, Caleb and a friend enjoyed a VIP tour of the Omni Frisco Hotel at The Star, home to the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters.

While remaining tight-lipped about Borderlands 4's specifics, Caleb emphasized the "amazing" and "awesome" experience. He expressed profound gratitude to everyone who championed his request and offered support during his challenging time.

A Community Rallies Behind a Fan

Caleb's journey began on October 24th, 2024, with a heartfelt Reddit post. He shared his prognosis – 7-12 months to live, potentially less than two years even with successful chemotherapy – and expressed his desire to experience Borderlands 4 before it was too late. His long-shot request quickly gained traction.

The Borderlands community rallied behind Caleb, flooding Gearbox with messages of support. Randy Pitchford responded swiftly on Twitter(X), promising to explore options. Within a month, Gearbox fulfilled Caleb's wish, granting him early access to the highly anticipated 2025 release.
