Call of Duty enthusiasts, prepare for Black Ops 6! On the inaugural episode of the official Call of Duty podcast, Activision revealed the dates for the game’s multiplayer beta, occurring in two phases. Early access begins August 30th and concludes September 4th, accessible to those with Black Ops 6 pre-orders or active subscriptions to select Game Pass tiers. Following this, the beta opens to all players from September 6 to 9.

Mark your calendars to participate in the next entry of this acclaimed franchise! The full game launches October 25, 2024 on Steam (PC), Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. As noted, it will also be available on Xbox Game Pass!

New And Updated Mechanics

The podcast also shared some exclusive details about the upcoming new installment, confirmed by Treyarch’s associate director of design, Matt Scronce, who was interviewed during the podcast. On launch day, Black Ops 6 will have 16 multiplayer maps, 12 of which are the core 6v6 maps and the other four being Strike maps playable as 6v6 or 2v2. Zombies, a popular gameplay mode in Call of Duty, is returning to Black Ops 6, including two new maps. A new mechanic called ‘Omnimovement’ will also be incorporated into the game.

Veteran COD players may be excited for this welcome return—making a comeback from past titles is the traditional scorestreak system, which the most recent Black Ops, Cold War, departed from. Scores will now again reset upon player elimination. Another interesting addition is the dedicated melee weapon slot, eliminating the need to sacrifice a secondary weapon for a knife, a feature Scronce shared the Treyarch team is enthusiastic about.

A full Black Ops 6 multiplayer unveiling will also occur at the Call of Duty Next event on August 28.
