Bethesda Surprises Fans with Starfield Patch Amid Oblivion Remastered Hype
Amid the buzz surrounding The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda has rolled out a surprise patch for Starfield, enhancing the game with a 'Very Low' display setting for better performance, expanded support for Creations (mods), and fixes across quests, vehicles, user interface, and the Shattered Space DLC. This update is currently available in Steam beta for PC players, with Bethesda actively seeking feedback and having published the patch notes on their website.
This patch primarily focuses on adding new features and addressing bugs, yet Starfield fans are eagerly awaiting news on potential new DLC. Launched in September 2023, Starfield marked Bethesda's first new IP in 25 years. Despite reaching 15 million players, it didn't garner the same acclaim as Bethesda's Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. The Shattered Space expansion, released in September 2024, received a 'mostly negative' user review rating on Steam.
Despite the mixed reception, Bethesda remains committed to Starfield, promising "exciting things" for the game this year. In June 2024, the studio reaffirmed its dedication, confirming at least one more story expansion following Shattered Space. Todd Howard, in an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, expressed ambitions to release annual story expansions for Starfield for "hopefully a very long time."
Speculation about a PlayStation 5 release intensified in March after a PlayStation logo appeared on Bethesda's official Creations website, linked to a Starfield ship decals Creation. Although the Creation was subsequently removed, it sparked hope among fans that the game, currently exclusive to PC and Xbox, might soon expand to PS5.
With all eyes on Oblivion Remastered, Starfield enthusiasts are hopeful for big announcements at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8. Could this event reveal a PS5 version and a new expansion? Perhaps even a surprise release, akin to Oblivion Remastered's strategy? Fans have only a few weeks left to find out.
