Larian Studios, the developer behind the critically acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3, has announced that it is now fully focused on its next project, entering a "media blackout" for the foreseeable future. While fans eagerly await the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8, expected later this year, Larian has shifted its "full attention" to what comes next.

Last week, Larian's CEO, Swen Vincke, took to X (formerly Twitter) to reminisce about the studio's journey with Baldur’s Gate 3, which has garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success. Vincke hinted at more to come, saying, "But the story ain't over yet," sparking curiosity and excitement among fans.

In a statement to VideoGamer, Larian confirmed that Swen Vincke and the team are now concentrating on crafting their next title, emphasizing a move away from the spotlight with a "media blackout."

While details about Larian's next game remain scarce, it's clear that it won't be a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3 or another Dungeons & Dragons game. Instead, Larian is eager to explore new horizons after failing to generate internal enthusiasm for a Baldur's Gate follow-up.

In November 2023, Vincke hinted at the studio's next project, expressing excitement and a desire to push boundaries. "I wish I could tell you about our next big game but this is really encouraging us to ensure it pushes many boundaries," he said, responding to Baldur’s Gate 3's numerous nominations at The Game Awards.

Additionally, in July 2023, before the explosive launch of Baldur’s Gate 3, Vincke mentioned to IGN that a sequel to the Divinity: Original Sin series is also in the works, though fans should not expect it immediately. "It's our own universe we built, so we're definitely gonna get back there at some point," Vincke stated, emphasizing the need for a creative break after completing Baldur’s Gate 3.

With Divinity not being the immediate next project, speculation abounds about what Larian might be working on. Could it be a new game set in a completely different universe? Given Larian's history with fantasy RPGs, could they venture into science fiction, a modern-day setting, or even a new genre altogether?
