Backbone Launches Exclusive Mobile Controller with Xbox
Xbox, one of the largest companies to wholeheartedly embrace mobile gaming, has made it clear that they aim to establish Xbox as an identity rather than merely a platform. In line with this vision, Xbox has partnered with game peripheral manufacturer Backbone to introduce a new mobile-focused controller.
The Backbone One: Xbox Edition is set to hit the market at a recommended retail price of $109.99. You'll be able to purchase it directly from Backbone and through Best Buy Drops. The design is unmistakably inspired by Xbox, featuring the iconic XYBA buttons, the Xbox logo, and other familiar elements. Adding to its appeal, the controller sports a stylish semi-translucent green design that's sure to catch the eye.
Currently, the Backbone One: Xbox Edition is compatible solely with USB-C devices, which means it's ready for Android phones, and possibly some iOS devices in the future, should the EU's legislation mandating USB-C ports come into effect.
A dollar sign too far? There's no denying the allure of the Xbox Edition Backbone, especially for those of us who have a soft spot for that transparent plastic casing. Even if my own gaming journey led me from Xbox to PlayStation and then PC, I can see its appeal, particularly for avid GamePass users and those engaged with other gaming services.
However, the $109.99 price tag might be a hurdle for some potential buyers. While it's significantly less than the cost of an actual Xbox console, which typically exceeds $400, the price for a branded accessory like this could be a deciding factor for many.
