Avengers: Doomsday Means Spider-Man: Brand New Day Arrives First, and Fans Hope This Means It'll Be a More Grounded Story
Disney's recent announcement about the dramatic delay of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars has left fans eagerly waiting to see Earth's mightiest heroes reunite on the big screen. Avengers: Doomsday has been rescheduled to December 18, 2026, a delay of seven months, while Secret Wars will follow on December 17, 2027. Amidst these shifts, the buzz around Spider-Man continues to grow.
Tom Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker in the much-anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to premiere on July 31, 2026. This film will continue Peter's journey post-No Way Home, where his identity was erased from the world's memory. Prior to Disney's delay, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was slated to come after Avengers: Doomsday, serving as a narrative bridge between Doomsday and Secret Wars. There were whispers of potential multiversal plotlines, aligning with the current trends in the MCU.
With the new schedule, Spider-Man: Brand New Day—which has yet to start filming—will now premiere before either Avengers movie. Fans are hopeful that this change will allow for a more grounded, street-level story for Spider-Man, providing the narrative with much-needed breathing room. Previously, Avengers: Doomsday would likely have ended on a cliffhanger similar to Infinity War, compelling audiences to see the resolution in the next film. With Spider-Man being a central figure in the Avengers, his involvement or absence would need addressing, affecting how Brand New Day could fit into the larger narrative.
"That completely changes things for Spider-Man 4," a fan remarked on Reddit regarding the delay and the new positioning of Brand New Day. "At least in the framing of how we thought it NEEDED to be in between both films timeline-wise. Now it sounds like it won't be." Another fan speculated, "If Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn't [also] delayed, I think that basically would confirm it isn't a multiverse battle world movie," hinting at the comic book storyline where heroes are stranded in a battle world.

Spider-Man enthusiasts are eager for more standalone stories featuring Peter Parker swinging through New York, rather than being pulled into cosmic adventures with the Avengers. For many, Disney's delay is a welcome development.
"This is the best Spider-Man 4 news we've gotten," one fan exclaimed. Another added, "With [Brand New Day] coming before Doomsday, this fully allows a grounded story, which lines up with the rumours and casting lately," referencing speculation about villains being cast for a more localized, New York-based plot.
Earlier this month, Liza Colón-Zayas, known for her role as Tina Marrero on FX's The Bear, was reportedly cast in Brand New Day. Fans speculate she could be playing the mother of Miles Morales, the alternate Spider-Man character whose popularity surged following Sony's Spider-Verse animated films.
As part of the reshuffling announced last night, Disney also removed an untitled Marvel project from its schedule that was set for February 13, 2026. Speculation suggests this might have been a placeholder for the long-delayed Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali, which now appears unlikely to be part of the current MCU saga.
Additionally, other Marvel film dates for November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027, have been changed to "Untitled Disney" films. If these projects remain outside the Marvel universe, the MCU's film schedule will be relatively sparse in the coming years.
The remainder of 2025 will see The Fantastic Four: First Steps hit the big screen in July, while the Disney+ series Ironheart and Wonder-Man are slated to debut. Looking ahead to 2026, Disney+ will feature the second season of Daredevil Born Again (expected in spring), a Punisher special presentation, and Vision Quest, with Paul Bettany leading the cast, which has quietly begun filming.
