Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released

A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility issues for several Assassin's Creed titles. Ubisoft has swiftly addressed the problem with patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, restoring functionality for players experiencing launch failures or game instability after installing the update. These patches are automatically delivered via Steam. Note that the Origins patch requires 230 MB of free space, while the Valhalla patch needs 500 MB.

However, the issue persists for some Ubisoft games, notably Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which continues to exhibit problems for some users. While previous fixes addressed critical issues in other titles like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, performance problems may remain. Players of Assassin's Creed Odyssey are advised to delay updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a dedicated patch is released.

The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. Although Ubisoft has resolved the problem for two major titles, the fact that issues were reported months prior to the official 24H2 rollout raises concerns about Microsoft's testing procedures, particularly given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Fortunately, the majority of games appear unaffected by this update.
