Schedule I’s Copyright Infringement Accuser Gets Review Bombed on Steam

The indie game Schedule I, a dope pushing simulator, has been thrust into the spotlight after being accused of copyright infringement by Movie Games S.A., creators of the The Drug Dealer Simulator series. According to a report by the Polish Press Agency dated April 3, Movie Games S.A. claims that after conducting a thorough legal review, they believe Schedule I may have infringed upon the intellectual property rights of The Drug Dealer Simulator. Their allegations suggest that Schedule I borrowed elements such as plot, mechanics, and even the user interface from their series.
Although no official verdict has been reached from the investigation, the gaming community has already taken sides, with a noticeable tilt in support towards Schedule I. As a result, The Drug Dealer Simulator and Drug Dealer Simulator 2 have been hit with a wave of negative reviews on Steam, resulting in ratings of "Overwhelmingly Negative" and "Mostly Negative" respectively.

The recent reviews criticize Movie Games S.A. for what is perceived as bullying the indie developer and point out the company's apparent hypocrisy. Critics note that similar games existed before Schedule I without facing legal challenges, yet Movie Games S.A. chose to target this particular title. This backlash is particularly striking given that The Drug Dealer Simulator series has been highly praised by both critics and fans as a top-tier criminal management game.
Schedule I is a cooperative crime simulation game where players begin as small-time dope pushers and aim to rise to the top of the criminal underworld. Launched into Early Access on PC on March 25, it has garnered "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam. Currently, Schedule I ranks as the 2nd top-selling game on Steam, outpacing popular titles such as inZOI, Monster Hunter Wilds, and the indie hit R.E.P.O. SteamDB reports that Schedule I has achieved an all-time peak of 459,075 concurrent players.
At Game8, we found Schedule I to be an unexpectedly engaging and rewarding experience, which we affectionately likened to a "Breaking Bad" simulator. To get a comprehensive insight into our impressions of Schedule I during its early access phase, be sure to read our detailed review below!
