The San Francisco 49ers have severed ties with controversial streamer Dr Disrespect following his admission of sending inappropriate messages to a minor on Twitch. This marks the latest in a series of sponsor withdrawals after details surrounding his 2020 Twitch ban surfaced.

Former Twitch executive Cody Conners revealed that Dr Disrespect, whose real name is Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV, was banned for "sexting a minor" via Twitch Whispers. While initially denying wrongdoing, Dr Disrespect subsequently acknowledged exchanging inappropriate messages with a minor.

This confession prompted the 49ers' decision to end their association. A team representative stated to Digiday, "We take these developments seriously and will not be working with him going forward." The 49ers, valued at an estimated $6 billion, represent the largest sponsor to drop Dr Disrespect in the wake of this scandal. Their collaboration included marketing campaigns and even announcing draft picks, such as Tyrion Davis-Price in 2022.

Other companies have also distanced themselves, including gaming accessory manufacturer Turtle Beach, and Midnight Society, a game development company co-founded by Dr Disrespect. Past sponsors, like Mountain Dew, have indicated no plans for future collaborations.

Following these developments, Dr Disrespect announced a streaming hiatus, stating his intention to resume content creation soon in a June 25 statement. The incident marks a significant downturn for the 42-year-old streamer, mirroring the abrupt end of his Twitch career.
