Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly awaited sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is nearing its release date. In this latest reveal, the creators took a moment to reminisce about one of their most celebrated projects: the wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which garnered them worldwide acclaim more than a decade ago.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its stark and somber atmosphere, The Alters introduces a more vibrant and often humorous narrative, focusing on the challenges faced by alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep connection between the two games.

Though vastly different in setting and mood, both titles center around the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the grim realities of war within a besieged city, where they must manage resources and tackle daily challenges to ensure their group's survival. On the other hand, The Alters frames survival as a time-sensitive ordeal, requiring players to continuously relocate their mobile base to evade a relentless sun that transforms everything into dust.

Both games compel players to step beyond their comfort zones and explore hostile terrains in search of vital resources. The primary distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine involves guiding a group of ordinary civilians, whereas The Alters features a unique ensemble of alternate versions of the main character.

The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day, offering players immediate access to this innovative survival experience.
