Dive into the exciting world of Japanese Mahjong, where strategic gameplay and traditional rules come together for an engaging experience. In this version, players use a slider located at the bottom of the screen to select and tap to discard tiles, making the game accessible and intuitive.
The objective of Japanese Mahjong is to complete a winning hand, which consists of four melds and one pair. For example, a valid hand might look like this: [1, 2, 3][6, 6, 6][6, 7, 8][N, N, N][4, 4]. However, not all hands are valid under the rules, especially when using Chi, Pon, and Open Kan. Be cautious when forming hands that include the numbers 1 and 9 through Chi and Pon, as these combinations can lead to invalid hands.
A key feature of Japanese Mahjong is the necessity of forming at least one Yaku (a scoring element) to declare a win. Players can enhance their hand by declaring "Reach" for a cost of 1,000 points, which signals their intent to win with a closed hand. However, declaring Reach is not possible if you have already used Chi, Pon, or Open Kan. A closed hand, one that is not exposed through these actions, can earn you higher points upon winning.
Understanding the concept of a "Lost Hand" is crucial. A Lost Hand is one that is Waiting to win but cannot do so by taking another player's discard because the winning tile has already been discarded by the player themselves. Even with a Lost Hand, self-draw remains a viable option for winning. The trick is to never be caught out by another player's Ron, which means winning off your discard. Always pay attention to the other players' discards to strategize your own winning hand effectively.
