Boerenbridge, also known in Flanders as Chinese Pooping, is an engaging card game that captivates players with its strategic depth and fun gameplay. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to keep track of points in this popular card game:
Objective of the Game
The main goal of Chinese Pooping is to accurately predict the number of "strokes" (tricks) you can win in each round. The game's scoring system is designed to reward precision in these predictions.
Game Rounds and Card Distribution
- Round Structure: The game consists of multiple rounds, starting with one card dealt to each player in the first round, two cards in the second, and so on, until reaching the maximum number of cards possible given the number of players. After reaching this peak, the number of cards dealt per player decreases back to one.
- Example: For a game with five players, the maximum number of cards dealt per player is 10.
Bidding and Trump
- Bidding: Each player, starting from the left of the dealer, predicts the number of strokes they aim to win in the round.
- Trump: The highest bidder decides the trump suit for that round.
Scoring System
- Points for Accurate Predictions: If a player correctly predicts the number of strokes they win, they score 10 points plus the number of strokes won. For instance, predicting and winning 3 strokes results in 13 points (10 + 3).
- Points for Inaccurate Predictions: If a player's prediction is incorrect, they lose 10 points for each stroke they are off by. For example, predicting 3 strokes but winning only 2 results in a loss of 10 points (10 points penalty for being off by 1 stroke).
- Special Rule for the Dealer: The dealer must ensure that the total number of strokes predicted by all players does not equal the total number of cards dealt in that round. If this happens, the dealer must adjust their bid to avoid this scenario.
Example of Scoring
- Round 7 (7 cards dealt per player):
- Player 1 predicts 0 strokes, wins 0 strokes: 10 points (10 + 0).
- Player 2 predicts 3 strokes, wins 3 strokes: 13 points (10 + 3).
- Player 3 predicts 2 strokes, wins 1 stroke: -10 points (10 points penalty for being off by 1 stroke).
- Player 4 (dealer) predicts 2 strokes, wins 4 strokes: -20 points (10 points penalty for each of the 2 strokes they are off by).
Winning the Game
The player with the highest total points after the final round (where each player is dealt one card) wins the game.
