Digital Transformation of Devarattam
This app was developed as part of my initiative titled "Digital Revolution of Devarattam," honored by Kalaimamani
Mr. M KUMARARAMAN, a retired teacher and recipient of the Kalaimani award, along with Kalaimani Mr. M KANNAN KUMAR and Kalaimani Mr. K NELLAI MANIKANDAN from Zamin Kodangipatti, who were awarded the prestigious KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMANI, and USTAD BISMILLAH KHAN YUVA PURASKAR awards respectively for their contributions to Devarattam. I dedicate this app to these legendary figures, my mentor Mr. E RAJAKAMULU, and all revered legends of Devarattam. The Devarattam app was created to promote Devarattam and highlight its awardees. The app details the history of Devarattam and profiles its distinguished honorees. Devarattam is a traditional folk dance from Tamil Nadu, historically and presently performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. The dance consists of 32 to 72 steps, with 32 being the foundational movements while the others are variations.
Devarattam dancers typically hold a handkerchief in each hand and wear ankle bells (Salangai) while performing to the rhythm of the Deva Thunthumi, a traditional musical instrument.
