Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet Destined Rivals Leaked

The Pokémon TCG's upcoming Scarlet & Violet - Destined Rivals expansion, launching May 30, 2025, promises to be a landmark release. And the hype is well deserved.
After exclusive early access to the set, I can confidently say: Destined Rivals delivers something special. This collection marks one of my most enjoyable card-opening experiences in recent memory.
The artwork sets a new standard - these are some of the most stunning illustrations I've seen in the TCG. The expansion features memorable Trainer Pokémon cards like Ethan from Pokémon Gold/Silver, delivering powerful nostalgia while pushing the game forward. This feels like precisely the refresh the Pokémon TCG needed.
More Than Nostalgia - A True Evolution
Destined Rivals represents genuine progress for the trading card game. Between the innovative Trainer Pokémon mechanics that expand deck-building potential and significantly improved pull rates, this set demonstrates clearer understanding of what players and collectors want.
This expansion could represent a turning point after recent stock challenges and difficult pull rates (though Journey Together initially signaled positive changes).
The excitement has me strategizing deck builds and considering multiples of key cards - an enthusiasm I haven't felt for new sets in quite some time. If distribution improves alongside these strong designs, trainers everywhere will struggle to resist this release.

Unboxing Experiences & Highlights
Through The Pokémon Company, I accessed several Destined Rivals products: a Build and Battle Box, Booster Bundle, Elite Trainer Box, and full Booster Box. The opening experience surpassed recent sets, with every product delivering genuinely exciting pulls.
Build and Battle Box

This starter set included 4 boosters, a stamped promo (Team Rocket's Tyranitar in my case), and a 40-card deck. From just four packs, I pulled one ex card and one Illustration Rare - impressive hit rates that set high expectations.
Elite Trainer Box
While my ETB luck wasn't spectacular, the inclusion of 9 boosters, premium sleeves, dice, markers, and the Rocket's Wobbuffet promo still impressed. The striking Team Rocket-themed packaging stands among the best recent ETB designs.
Booster Bundle
The simple 6-booster pack delivered exciting results, including my personal set favorite - Ethan's Typhlosion Illustration Rare. These bundles offer excellent value for focused openings.
Booster Box
The 36-pack box served as the grand finale, yielding multiple ex cards, a Gold rarity, a Special Illustration Rare, and several stunning IRs. This experience reinforced how properly balanced pull rates can make box openings feel like true events rather than chores.
Standout Features
Destined Rivals excels through:
- Breathtaking artwork that brings even common cards to life
- The return of Trainer Pokémon mechanics for thematic deck-building
- Significantly improved pull rates compared to recent sets
- Cohesive character-based collections (like Cynthia's team)
Top Pulls From Preview
From 46 total packs opened, highlights included:
- 8 ex cards
- 6 Illustration Rares
- 1 Special Illustration Rare

Notable Cards:
Ethan's Ho-Oh ex (239/182): A breathtaking SIR featuring Ethan and Ho-Oh against a vibrant sunset backdrop. The gold variant offers equally impressive presence.
Arven's Mabosstiff ex (235/182): Heartwarming artwork capturing Pokémon-human bonds. Its Vigorous Tackle and Boss's Headbutt attacks enable potent midrange strategies.
Team Rocket's Crobat ex (217/182): Dynamic full-art design with major damage-spread potential when combined with cards like Bloodmoon Ursaluna.
Ethan's Typhlosion (190/182): Stunning IR showcasing trainer-Pokémon connection through Buddy Blast's discard-fueled damage mechanic.
Team Rocket's Houndoom (191/182): Showcases how Illustration Rares transform underappreciated Pokémon into collectible highlights.
Final Verdict
Destined Rivals earns a strong recommendation - provided you can find stock. This set revitalizes pack-opening excitement, enhances deck-building depth, and delivers some of Scarlet & Violet's most visually impressive cards yet. Collectors, competitive players, and casual fans alike will find plenty to appreciate - just prepare for your budget to feel the burn.
